If you're staying on the South of the island, Surin is a bit of a trek to get to, but if you like a quieter beach than Karon, Kata, or Patong, Surin is a great option. A huge beach with tons of space to have your own little area and not worry about having lots of people around.
Also many places along the beach with food and amenities. Surin beach became our home for over a week when we travelled to Phuket. The water is clear, the beach is clean and cool restaurants nearby, what more could you want. Surin beach is a great place to hang out. Get an umbrella in front of PLA and have them bring you beers PLA has amazing food too!
Laem Singh beach just to the south is quieter and also has a great restaurant right on the water. We visited most of the beaches throughout Phuket and Surin was one of our favourites purely because it wasn't as overcrowded as most of the others. It's still a pretty popular beach but there was just a bit more room to breathe so to speak. Beautiful clear waters, and a variety of restaurants and clubs dotted alongside the road running parallel to the beach made grabbing a bite to eat and a sip to drink a nice touch.
It definitely seems a bit more 'upbeat' sort of a beach though, with loud music being blasted from some of the beach clubs but it wasn't offensive, it almost added to the beach vibe and made it something different.
